Senior Accountant

This is a full-time position to start immediately. This Senior Accountant will work closely with all employees and management to maximize efficiency, problem-solving and results. Day-to-day duties will include preparing federal and state tax returns, completing and supervising accounting work and handling various client needs as required.

Duties and responsibilities

Client Services

  • Prepare/review federal and state individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns, while exercising professional judgment
  • Engages in professional and efficient communication with clients and develops effective working relationships with clients
  • Promotes additional services to clients when appropriate
  • Develops intimate knowledge of clients and their business activities
  • Communicates with the IRS and other state authorities in a professional manner
  • Stays abreast of current economic and business events
  • Research tax issues and legislation and interpret tax code
  • Make projections on future tax liabilities when necessary, based on variable options to make client recommendations as part of the tax planning process
  • Interact with clients regarding tax return information, deadlines, etc. and keep the team informed on status
  • Look for opportunities to provide additional services to clients
  • Additional responsibilities not listed above may be expected as needed

  • Builds and maintains positive relationships across the firm
  • Communicates professionally and collaborates with team members to provide quality service to clients
  • Contributes and supports new ideas on internal processes and client engagements
  • Keep current on professional announcements and proactively participate in professional development opportunities
  • Promotes and exhibits work-life balance
  • Maintains open communication with team regarding the progress of completion on projects
  • Utilizes computer applications and relevant technology effectively
  • Keeps CPA permit and CPE requirements up-to-date
  • Enters time daily

Looking Ahead Within the Firm

As applicant gains the necessary experience, the following additional responsibilities will provide opportunity for promotion:

  • Manages all aspects of billing, including client inquiries
  • Develops appropriate fee quotes for new tax engagements
  • Advising clients on structuring deals and entities for tax minimization
  • Taking on and building relationships with new clients

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university
  • CPA required or CPA eligible
  • Strong time management, organizational and prioritization skills
  • Project management skills with the ability to successfully handle multiple clients’ needs simultaneously
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to listen effectively
  • Work well under pressure; able to meet deadlines with accuracy
  • Ability to learn processes quickly and be able to apply that knowledge to engagements

Preferred qualifications

  • Income and payroll tax experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Federal, Alabama and Georgia income tax laws and principles of individual and business taxation
  • Working knowledge and experience with Thomson Reuters UltraTax CS and Accounting CS and
  • QuickBooks

Bookkeeper

Experienced bookkeeper for accounting firm in local area. The ideal candidate will be well organized and comfortable dealing with financial data. This individual will be responsible for overseeing accounts payable and receivable, processing payroll and conducting other tasks related to finance. The ideal candidate must be able to work individually and with a team and handle multiple tasks. They should be excellent at recording data and have an ability to produce clear financial reports. Compensation and benefits will be discussed during the interview.

Responsibilities

  • Track expenses, budget, taxes, cash flow, receipts, and other financial dealings of company
  • Provide regular financial reports (weekly, monthly, and yearly)
  • Prepare and file sales tax and quarterly reports
  • Bank reconciliation
  • Preparation and filing of year end reports (W-2s and 1099s)
  • Monitor accounts payable and receivable

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in related field
  • Knowledge of financial statement formatting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Experience in QuickBooks and Accounting CS is a plus
  • Understanding of payroll processing
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
